Covid 19 Vaccine related axillary lymphadenopathy, case reports and recommendations for clinical practice

In May 2020, the National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA), in partnership with Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare (e-LfH), launched their e-learning programme for radiographers, radiologists and breast clinicians. This is the second monthly update about the programme. 

There are now over 60 e-learning sessions are available via the e-LfH Hub. New sessions added recently include:

#ASCO2022 - Annual US Oncology Meeting
Breast Cancer Highlights

The 2022 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting took place on 3rd–7th June 2022. Key breast cancer data from a UK perspective were identified by a Steering Committee of experts reflecting a range of specialities in breast oncology.


During the conference, the Steering Committee fed back on the data they believed were most relevant to share with the UK breast oncology clinical community. Key insights from our Steering Committee are presented in the Breast Cancer Highlights Report - access via buttons below.

The collaborative ABC / RCR / HEE / NBIA Breast Clinician Credential Project

The collaborative ABC / RCR / HEE / NBIA Breast Clinician Credential Project was shortlisted for a BMJ award in 2020. Here is our video presentation for the judges, no real life presentations this year due to the pandemic. Sadly we didn't win our category but being shortlisted itself is a major achievement and thanks go to all involved in putting together the application, presentation and the project in general which has been a success.

ANNUAL ABC BREAST SPECIFIC TRAINING BURSARY FOR FULL MEMBERS

Until the end of March 2024, Full members can apply for one bursary per financial year of up to £100 per member for breast specific training. To apply, members will have to provide proof of attendance at a course/conference and proof of payment for the course etc.

This has to be applied for, more than 2 weeks in advance of the training, and approval will be given as long as proof of attendance for the course/conference and proof of payment can be provided, after the training. You will then receive your bursary payment after the meeting has taken place.

I have been a breast clinician since 2007, training and working at the Nightingale Centre in Manchester. I completed my MSc in breast evaluation in 2012 and I have worked in both symptomatic and screening breast imaging at the Countess of Chester Breast Unit since 2016. I am lead breast clinician for the National Breast Imaging Academy eLearning project, a comprehensive on-line learning resource for breast clinicians, radiographers, consultant practitioners as well as trainee and consultant radiologists. I am passionate about improving patient care through education, audit and evidence. In my spare time I enjoy cycling, running, walking and travel.

I have worked as an Breast clinician in Taunton since 2008. I started my career as a surgical trainee gaining experience in breast and plastics before moving across to the radiological side of things. I completed my MSc in Breast Evaluation in 2013 and completed further training in MRI interpretation and reporting in 2017, enabling me to perform all aspects of breast imaging. I became President of the ABC in 2017, I enjoy teaching and am very excited about the new curriculum and credential project. Outside work I enjoy running, cooking and playing French Horn.

I previously trained in paediatrics and general radiology before happily finding my role as a Breast Clinician in 2016. I have been part of the team in Taunton since 2016 working in both the screening and symptomatic services, and I completed my MSc in Breast Evaluation in 2020. Outside work I enjoy painting and running with my dog.

I am a Pakistani trained surgeon and after moving to UK settled as a Breast Clinician. I joined Breast Unit at Northampton General Hospital NHS trust in 2017 and then completed my MSc in Breast Evaluation in 2020 and now working in both symptomatic and screening setups. I occasionally teach medical students as well. I am an advocate of improving clinical practice through evidence, research, audit and reflection on experiences and feedbacks. Outside work, I love reading and spending time with family.

The Association of Breast Clinicians (ABC), represents doctors working in the UK as breast clinicians and was established over 25 years ago. During this time, multiple training pathways have been undertaken and the ABC has always strived for a recognised national curriculum and specialty. The collaboration with the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), developing a curriculum and training and assessment programme deliverable nationally as part of a pilot project backed by Health Education England (HEE), provides an opportunity for the role of the breast clinician to be standardised, certified through a credential and valued by every breast unit in the UK...view more & download

Membership is open to any registered medical practitioner who is, or has been, regularly and actively involved in the specialty, spending a significant proportion of working time within a recognised National Health Service Breast Screening Programme and/or is regularly engaged in symptomatic breast work.
